The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social-democratic political party in Grenada. The party was officially launched in October 1987, following a period of political developments that brought together a group of individuals committed to creating a different approach to governance and political participation. George Brizan became the party's first Political Leader. In 2003 general election, the party secured seven parliamentary seats and became the official Opposition. On July 8, 2008, the NDC won 11 of the 15 parliamentary seats and formed the Government of Grenada, with Tillman Thomas becoming the country's eight Prime Minister. Currently, the NDC is led by Hon. Dickon Mitchell, who became Political Leader in October 2021. On June 23, 2022, he led the NDC to victory in the general election, winning 9 out of the 15 parliamentary seats. The party describes its approach as one focused on modernizing the economy while addressing the needs of workers and disadvantaged groups, strengthening communities, developing human capital and protecting the natural environment. Its stated core principles include putting people first, empowering youth, supporting vulnerable people, expanding access to education, promoting self-reliance and protecting women and children from violence.
